Parent Child

IWS offers two parent child classes divided by developmental age. Each class is taught by a certified Waldrof Early Childhood teacher.

Parent & Infant (1-6 months)

General Information:

Parents with their infants ages 1 - 6 months come together in the warmth of a Waldorf Early Childhood classroom to relax and observe the unfolding development and awareness of their child.  Sharing and discussion of observations and daily life with a baby are part of each class.  Lullabies and finger plays, as well as information on important elements of parenting during this first year, child development and Waldorf education are presented and handouts provided.  Light refreshments are available and tea is served at the beginning of each class. It is an opportunity to find new friends in a supportive atmosphere and learn ways to enhance your home life and strengthen your relationship with your child.

Class Time Includes:

• Gathering for discussion, sharing & tea
• Observing and reflecting on the children and their activities
• Learning songs, rhymes, and games to share with your child
• Ways to support healthy physical, social, and mental growth
• Effectively addressing issues such as discipline and sleep
• Creating a family life fostering happiness and healthy relationships

Parent & Toddler (18 months-3 years)

General Information:

Children ages 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers come together in the warmth of a Waldorf Early Childhood classroom to relax and enjoy open-ended play.  Sharing and discussion follow periods of observation and reflection on the children's activity.  After play there is a shared snack, and then a circle time to sing songs, do finger plays and lap games, and watch a puppet show. Information on child development, parenting, and Waldorf education are introduced throughout the session. It is an opportunity to find new friends in a supportive atmosphere and learn ways to enhance your home life and strengthen your relationship with your child.
