I bear summer in me, like a seed
Now that it truly feels like fall, we will need to take this advice to hold the summer in us like a seed – preferably roasted buckwheat kernels wrapped in wool! Happily we host some of our most heart-warming festivals at this time of year; Dia de los Muertos has just passed, and we look forward to the EC Lantern Walk and the Winter Spiral just ahead.
The candle flames of these upcoming events which provide warmth and light will guide us into the darker days. And while the weather did not permit us to transform our barriletes through fire, we can appreciate that they are preserved for our enjoyment in the foyer.
Welcome Baby Boy Williams!!
We are delighted to share the news that Layla Williams' little brother arrived into the world on Tuesday, October 31st. Our warmest congratulations to Kia and Ulysses and their entire family.

Family Handbooks and IWS Directories Now Available
Please stop by the office if you have not yet received your copies. The Handbook is, well, very handy if you are looking for information about school protocols, policies, guidelines and general Who-to-Contact-When-This-Happens advice. Which reminds me . . .
Health and Attendance Policies
Please take a moment to remember how important it is to the quality of the opening circle in all classrooms that children arrive on time. Beginning the day together, without disruption sets a very particular tone. And then remind yourself how much more difficult timeliness becomes as the weather and light change with the seasons. Add a few minutes to your morning routine if you find yourselves constantly running behind! The snow, when it gets here, will only make us slower . . .
Grades children are expected to be in their classrooms by 8:25, and Early Childhood children before 9 am.
And when do you not send your child to school at all? These guidelines are described in the Family Handbook on page 30 . . . and can be boiled down to the suggestion that if your child is not well enough to play outside, whatever the weather, he or she should not come to school. There are specific guidelines as to fevers, diarrhea, ear pain etc. that can be referenced. Also, if your child has been absent from school, we would not expect to see him or her child at an after school event or activity that day.
Photo Forms are Here
On Tuesday of this week grades students had their photo taken by Life Touch Photography. Please pick up a Photo Form at the front table in the foyer so that you may place your orders as soon as samples are available. There will be a catch-all day on Wednesday November 8th for any student who was absent.
A Transportation Request
Is anyone driving to school from the Genoa area, down Hwy 34? Or from Fall Creek? One of our EC students could use a lift to school as his family is moving. Harley could connect with a family coming from Fall Creek, since mom, Jennie, works in that area. Please contact the office if you can help.
