Summer Program Assistant Teacher

Ithaca Waldorf School offers two summer programs, one for ages 4-6 (Early Childhood) and the other for ages 7-12 (Grades). We are seeking warm, caring and supportive Assistant Teachers, five days/week from 8:00am-3:30pm.

Our summer program runs June 21st - August 13th (minus June 28-July 2), and August 30th - September 3rd. This calendar includes 1 Waldorf Week in June, 6 weeks of Summer Program, and 1 Waldorf Week in August. Summer Program is open to the public and includes themes for the older children, whereas Waldorf Weeks are childcare provided for staff children and IWS students only. We strive for consistency in our staffing over the entire summer season, but will also consider applicants for select weeks.

Ideal candidates are friendly and open, joyful, and have experience working with children.

All candidates should be able to provide a safe, nurturing and orderly environment that meets the needs of the children in care.  Outdoor play and visits to The Farm are part of the daily program for children of all ages. Our Early Childhood program spends most of the time outdoors, regardless of the weather, with access to indoors for afternoon rest time and in the case of severe weather. Our Grades 1-6 program is entirely outdoors, with access to our school building for bathrooms and in case of emergency. If indoors, it is expected that the teacher will leave a clean and orderly classroom at the end of each day.

Compensation is $19-21/hour for the Assistant Teacher position.

The independent, not-for-profit Ithaca Waldorf School is authorized by the New York State Department of Education to provide instruction through Grade 8.  A fully-accredited member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN), we are currently an associate school with the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America.  The Ithaca Waldorf School is nestled in the New York Finger Lakes on an 80-acre organic campus composed of field, forest and a biodynamic and educational farm.
