Beating of the Bounds
Wednesday, March 18th, 2026 2-4:30pm
Around the spring equinox each year, we invite our IWS community to join us for a perimeter walk with local Biodynamic farmers around some of the school property, sprinkling Biodynamic preparations as we go, to wake the farm for spring! This is based on an old English tradition of teaching youth the boundaries of pastures, now combined with spreading the magic of Biodynamic preparations, which are kind of like compost tea or a homeopathic remedy for farms.
Wednesday, March 18th, 2026
2pm: start stirring the Biodynamic preparations in our front courtyard to energize this "magic potion"
2:40pm: join our student body in the courtyard for our March Community Sing!
3pm: enjoy songs and a snack, then carry buckets and bracken brushes on a child-friendly walk around playgrounds and some fields
after: gather around the campfire behind the pavilion to finish up snacks and enjoy the spring air
4:30: end!
Students in our After School Program will join with their teachers.
What is Biodynamics?
Biodynamics is to farming what Waldorf is to education: Rudolf Steiner gave lectures and indications on how to revitalize and renew agriculture, education, medicine, economics, art, and much more... his teachings became the movements we now know as Biodynamic Agriculture, Waldorf Education, Anthroposophical Medicine, etc.
