2027 Summer Program Coordinator
Open until filled. Please apply by October 31st, 2026.
Ithaca Waldorf School offers two summer programs, “Explorers” for ages 4-6 (Early Childhood) and “Farm & Art” for ages 7-12 (Grades 1-6). We seek an organized, self-motivated, outgoing leader to coordinate the 2027 summer program vision, hire and orient lead- and assistant-teachers, handle student enrollment, and conduct the daily administrative duties for this program while in session.
Our summer program, which is open to the public as well as to IWS students, runs June 21st - August 13th (minus June 28-July 2), and August 30th - September 3rd. This calendar includes 1 Waldorf Week in June, 6 weeks of Summer Program, and 1 Waldorf Week in August. Summer Program is open to the public and includes themes for the older children, whereas Waldorf Weeks are childcare provided for staff children and IWS students only.
This position includes 2 hours per week November-May, and 12 hours per week while the summer program is in session (June-August). The Coordinator may work remotely Nov-May, although hiring staff between Nov-Jan should include in-person interviews whenever possible. During the 8 weeks of summer program, Coordinator must be on-site at the beginning and end of program day (8-9am and 2:30-3:30pm), and on-call on- or off-site during the program day.*
*The Summer Program Coordinator may apply to teach or assist for any of the summer weeks in addition to their administrative hours/tasks, as long as the hours and responsibilities don’t conflict—in fact, an interest in working directly with children and families as an instructor would be an asset to the program, as it could provide transparency and consistency for the program, and simplify staffing needs.
Tasks include: (preprogram:) working with marketing coordinator and feedback from previous years to create a vision for 2027 summer program; hiring, orienting, and managing summer staff; establishing and monitoring student enrollment; being the face of the program and main point of contact; (during program:) opening and closing the building each day of program; supporting summer teachers, students, and families with questions and problem-solving; arranging substitute teachers as needed (or being the substitute, for additional pay); conducting end-of-season feedback reviews with staff and families (i.e. family surveys and hosting a closing teacher gathering).
Ideal candidates are friendly self-starters with excellent executive functioning and communication skills; enjoy working with children and families; have experience in education, program/project management, office management, or customer service; are interested in continuing in this position for multiple years. Candidates should be comfortable with Google Drive and Gmail, Squarespace web platform, and managing an online enrollment platform. Interest in or experience with Waldorf education, pedagogy, or philosophy, or any other Anthroposophical field, is a major boon.
Compensation is $25.70/hour for the Summer Program Coordinator position (2hr/week for 28 weeks (Nov-May), and 12hrs/week for 11 weeks (June-August))
Applicants should email a letter of interest, resume, three references to the Hiring Committee c/o Aileen Funk (office@ithacawaldorf.org).
